Maya Angelou's Legacy of Light and Inspiration

Maya Angelou Quote

Maya Angelou was a poet, writer, actor, and teacher...and today the world said goodbye to the phenomenal woman who inspired millions of people with her words. Ms. Angelou passed away at the age of 86 due to health reasons.

As an African-American woman growing up during times of extreme racial tension, Maya Angelou overcame so many obstacles and became a huge success. She followed her passion, and in her lifetime accomplished so much more than some of us could do in 10 lifetimes. How many people do you know could write seven autobiographies, several poetry books that sold millions of copies, and a long list of plays, essays, screenplays, and TV shows? Let’s also add the countless awards and over thirty honorary doctoral degrees.

What a true inspiration! Because of all the things that Maya Angelou has done, her legacy will live on forever. Now she is in a much more peaceful place continuing to shine her light.

It’s a great time to pause and reflect on your own life and legacy. If you were to pass away today, could you lay there and say that you lived up to your full potential? Did you enjoy every moment of every day? Were you grateful for the journey that you were meant to go through?

Did you shine your light in this world?

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” --Matthew 5:16

You will know that you are doing good and fulfilling your dream when you wake up each morning feeling so excited to face the day, knowing that you are doing something that you absolutely love. If not, it’s time to take just one small step towards that dream, and with The Holy Spirit by your side, you will always be given the strength to take that one simple step.

You don’t have to move mountains today, but you can certainly move a pebble or a grain of sand, right? If Maya Angelou can rise from poverty and personal tragedy, spawn a movement of extraordinary writings, and influence millions of people, then you can do ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING you set your mind to.
